The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is a 30,000-member professional organization that is committed to improving the detection, deterrence and prevention of fraud and white-collar crime. The Association also is committed to the education of accounting and criminal justice students who will become the Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs) of the future.

The 150-member Georgia Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners sponsors monthly meetings and an annual seminar to provide continuing education in fraud detection, deterrence and prevention. The proceeds of the annual seminar are used to fund this scholarship program.

The Georgia Chapter, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Inc. expects to award a number of scholarships in the amount of $750 each during Spring 2008 academic terms for the Fall 2008 term. Qualified applicants are full-time (12 hours or more per semester), a rising Junior or Senior undergraduate or graduate students in accounting, criminal justice, risk management or law degree programs in the state of Georgia, who have demonstrated an interest in fraud. Applicants must be residents of Georgia. The deadline for the submission of a scholarship application is May 1, 2008. The scholarships will be awarded in June, 2008. The scholarship cannot be applied toward the Becker classroom CPA Review Course.

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of (a) overall academic achievement demonstrated by notarized transcripts (at least 3.0 GPA); (b) two letters of faculty recommendation, at least one of which must be from an instructor in the student’s accounting, criminal justice, risk management or law degree program; and (c) an interest in fraud detection, deterrence, and prevention, demonstrated through courses of study or career goals.
