The panel consists of members of Moore Colson, and they will discuss fraud risks related to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Biographies

Adam Bateman, CPA, Tax Partner

Adam Bateman, CPA, is a Partner with Moore Colson’s Tax Services practice. In this role, Adam’s primary focus is on tax compliance and planning services for closely-held businesses and their owners. Adam’s responsibilities at Moore Colson include the coordination of tax services for clients, planning and organizing engagements, managing the progress of work, suggesting and implementing tax planning ideas, and supervising staff.


Adam’s professional background in public accounting includes serving clients in the construction, real estate, land conservation, private equity, and financial services industries. He also has extensive experience in representation before the IRS and state tax authorities, mergers and acquisitions, and implementation of successful tax strategies for closely-held businesses.

 

Jonathan Levens, CPA, Tax Partner

Jonathan Levens, CPA, is a Partner with Moore Colson’s Tax Services practice. In this role, Jonathan’s primary focus is on tax compliance and consulting services for private equity-owned as well as closely-held businesses and their owners. Jonathan’s responsibilities at Moore Colson include leadership roles in the firm’s tax services practice, the coordination and management of tax compliance and consulting services, and the implementation of effective tax strategies.


Jonathan’s professional background in public accounting includes serving clients in the private equity / venture capital, manufacturing and distribution, retail, service, restaurant, healthcare, staffing and financial services industries. Jonathan has extensive experience in merger / acquisition structuring and due diligence services.

 

Steven Murphy, Tax Partner

Steven Murphy is a Partner in Moore Colson’s Tax Services Practice. He currently is the Practice Leader for the Transportation Industry and also serves as the Tax Practice Leader for the Retail Industry. Steven works with the coordination of tax services for clients, planning and organizing engagements, managing the progress of work, maintaining and expanding good client relations, suggesting and implementing tax planning ideas, performing research, and supervising staff.


Steven’s professional background in public accounting, along with his strong interpersonal and team-oriented skills, complement Moore Colson’s already diversified tax team. With expertise in federal and state tax planning, Steven’s successful business background includes serving clients in the transportation, retail, manufacturing, and technology industries.


Steven started his professional career at Arthur Andersen LLP, where he worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions group. He then spent two years with Deloitte & Touche LLC, and most recently worked as a Tax Manager with closely held clients at a local firm before joining Moore Colson in 2007.

 

Mike Pompilio, Tax Partner

Mike Pompilio is a Partner in Moore Colson's Tax Services Practice. He focuses on providing practical and meaningful tax strategies while ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations. He is responsible for the coordination of tax services for his clients, maintaining and enhancing client relationships, and the development and supervision of talent.


Mike leads tax services for our Real Estate Practice. He brings considerable technical expertise to the firm in the complex federal taxation areas of real estate, partnerships and corporations. He has extensive experience in all sectors of the real estate and hospitality industries, including fund managers and advisors, developers, operating properties and hotels.


Mike’s broad public accounting experience enables him to provide comprehensive tax consulting services to an array of middle market and closely held businesses. He also leads the firm’s manufacturing industry group, where he utilizes his strong background in corporate and partnership taxation. Mike's professional background, coupled with his strong interpersonal and team oriented skills, complement Moore Colson's already robust and diverse tax team.


Mike began his career in the Atlanta office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, before joining the Atlanta office of a regional firm. He joined Moore Colson in 2013.

 

 

Andy Starnes, Tax Partner

Andy Starnes is a Partner in Moore Colson’s Tax Services Practice. Andy specializes in coordination of tax services for clients, planning and organizing engagements, managing the progress of work, maintaining and expanding good client relations, suggesting and implementing tax planning ideas, performing research, and supervising staff.


Andy’s professional background in public accounting, along with his strong interpersonal and team-oriented skills, complement Moore Colson’s already diversified tax team. With expertise in federal and state tax planning, Andy’s successful business background includes serving clients in the construction, manufacturing, professional service, retail, and staffing industries. Andy leads the tax area for Moore Colson's construction team, coordinating all federal tax filings, general business consulting related to project management, and navigating state and local regulations.


Prior to joining Moore Colson in 2000, Andy spent the first years of his career at KPMG, working principally with Fortune 500 companies as a state and local Tax Specialist.
