GACFE Luncheon Meeting February 9, 2018


Speakers: Chris Tierney and Rusty Lane

Topic: If You Can’t Trust Family, Who Can You Trust?  Workplace Fraud Perpetrated by Those You Should Be Able to Trust Most

Chris and Rusty will share two interesting cases of fraud committed by family members within a non-profit organization and a for-profit business.


Chris Tierney, CTP, CFE

   Chris is a Partner in Moore Colson’s Consulting Practice. Chris has over 29 years experience in providing financial, operational, and strategic analysis and advice for domestic and international companies and their stakeholders.

   Chris is regularly appointed by State and Federal courts as a Trustee, Receiver, and Examiner and also serves as an adviser or interim manager to debtors and creditors in complex workouts, bankruptcy reorganizations, receiverships, and liquidations. In addition, Chris has extensive experience providing litigation support, fraud, and forensic services, as well as providing expert and consulting witness testimony on a broad range of topics.

   Chris also has Big 4 experience where he managed the restructuring services practice in the Southeast, providing financial advisory services to domestic and international clients and government agencies. With over 14 years in the banking and securities industry, he has managed middle market and large corporate workouts, frauds, and bankruptcies for Wachovia Securities, the Bank of Tokyo, and Fleet Financial Group. Chris has experience in a wide range of industries and situations that face small and middle market private and public companies. Chris is also a Registered Neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution providing mediation and arbitration services on civil matters for companies and individuals.

   Prior to joining Moore Colson, Chris worked as a Managing Director with Hays Financial Consulting, and prior to that with Deloitte & Touche USA in their Financial Advisory Services Practice. Chris has been a featured speaker, author, and quoted expert for many organizations, including: Association for Corporate Growth, American Bankruptcy Institute, Georgia Bar Association, National Association of Credit Managers, Turnaround Management Association, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Atlanta Business Chronicle, and Fox News. 


Rusty Lane, CPA, CFE, CGMA

   Rusty is a Director in Moore Colson’s Consulting Practice. Rusty has over 23 years experience in accounting, business operations, tax compliance, and litigation support in the public accounting and private sectors. He also has Big 4 experience providing financial advisory services, forensic accounting, fraud investigations, and activity-based costing models to Fortune 500 clients and government agencies.

   Rusty conducts financial statement fraud investigations and provides expert witness reports and testimony in litigation cases involving disputes between shareholders, financial institutions, and stockholders. He also serves as an accountant and operations manager for various businesses under receivership, manages daily operations, including vendor relations, inventory control, forecasts, and cash flow. Rusty also develops forecasts, budgets, cash flows, and business plans for clients, creditors, and other stakeholders, while designing internal controls procedures for operations and accounting units to safeguard assets and assist in the management of the company.

   Prior to joining Moore Colson, Rusty worked as a Director with Hays Financial Consulting, and also Deloitte & Touche USA, in their Financial Advisory Services Practice.
